Material Guide

Surgical Steel

We strictly offer Surgical Grade Stainless Steel (316LSSS) which comes in standard silver, or PVD (physical vapour deposit) Black, Gold & Rose Gold colourations.

Titanium

We strictly offer implant grade Titanium (G23 6AL-4V ELI-ASTM F136). This is the most widely used titanium alloy in the medical industry and is suitable for maximum biocompatibility into the body.

All our jewellery is packaged, sterilised, and stored as per AS/NZ standards.

Aftercare Guide

For best results clean your new piercing twice a day. Once in the morning and once at night with your Punktured Aftercare Saline.

Do not touch, move, or play with the jewellery throughout the healing period to prevent infection or any bad bacteria getting in the open wound. There may be some discharge forming scabs, this is all completely normal so don’t pick or remove as this is your body’s natural protective layer for the healing process.

Avoid sleeping on your new piercing and change your pillowcase regularly.

We strongly suggest avoiding swimming in pools, rivers or the ocean until your piercing has healed. Keep an eye on the jewellery to ensure it’s not too tight on the pierced area as this can cause a build-up of fluids and create too much pressure on the healing area. Some swelling/blood is expected so don’t stress, however if you are unsure at all please visit us instore.

Please don’t hesitate to drop by and check in with your piercing professional if you are concerned or need any further assistance.

Piercing Procedure

Sterilisation

We use autoclave sterilisers in all Off Ya Tree stores. These use steam and pressure to kill germs. We also use new needles for each piercing - these are medically sterilised and sealed.

Our piercers are happy to answer any questions you have about sterilisation - Just ask!

Piercing Guns

We NEVER use piercing guns and you should steer clear of any piercing salon that tells you these are okay to use.

Piercing guns cannot be sterilised properly between clients which can lead to infections.

This method also causes great damage to tissue and can leave very visible and darkened scarring.

The earring studs used in piercing guns are also not appropriate for piercings other than the earlobes.

Numbing

We don't sell numbing spray and will not perform procedures on anyone who has used numbing cream.

Jewellery Requirements

For hygiene reasons, we must pierce with jewellery that has been medically sterilised in our autoclave.

Previously used or unsterile jewellery is not suitable for a fresh piercing, so you will need to purchase new jewellery from us for the initial piercing.

Change Overs

Change overs won't incur a fee when you purchase jewellery from us on the day and change over at the same time, however there is a $10 fee any other time/ with your own provided jewellery.
You should wait until your piercing has completely healed before you change your jewellery.

You may put yourself at risk of infection or rejection if you don't wait. Healing time depends on what type of piercing you get.
For average healing times, check out the details in the Aftercare section below or ask your local Punktured piercer.

Post-Procedure

For all piercings during healing avoid:

  • Moving or rotating your jewellery where possible. This will allow your piercing to heal safely.
  • Touching your piercing as this can increase the chance of infection.
  • Over cleaning. Only clean your piercing as directed by your piercer.
  • Oral contact from others.
  • Chlorine as this can cause irritation. So avoid pools and spas.
  • Changing your jewellery until healed - you may damage the piercing or get an infection.
  • Shampoo, conditioner residue and soaps. Make sure you rinse these away while showering.
  • Tight and unwashed clothing and linen.
  • Restrictive clothing.
  • Illicit drugs and alcohol consumption initially (especially with oral piercings).

Remember to:

  • Maintain a healthy lifestyle.
  • Change bedding and towels regularly.
  • Contact your piercer if you have any questions or queries.

Eating & Drinking Before and After

Eating before a piercing and ensuring your body is well fuelled is great. Maintaining your regular diet after your new piercing is always suggested too, as the human body relies on sustenance. However, in the case of oral piercings, eating can be a slightly weird sensation so care is advised.

There is no situation where we can ethically pierce a person under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

In all cases heavy consumption of these things WILL slow the healing process and promote infection.

In the case of oral piercings alcohol consumption of any type or brand will cause further complications to swelling, slow healing or a multitude of infections.
It is strongly advised against until healing is nearly complete.

Can I bring my child to get pierced?

Yes, if your child is over the age of 10, they can be pierced at any of our stores.

You must provide valid photo ID and proof of guardianship. For example, a Medicare card that includes both your names.

If you do not have valid photo ID or proof of guardianship, please consult with the store to confirm what forms of identification may be accepted for your child.

Due to Australian law, we cannot pierce anyone under the age of 10.

Can my friend or support person come into the studio during a procedure?

Long story short, No.

First of all, we cannot care for that person whilst we are performing a procedure on you. We only have one set of hands! If they faint, we can't catch them!

Secondly, we are covered legally for any incidents with you in the studio as you have signed a waver (consent form) for any circumstances that may happen. Whether that be medical, physical etc.. Friends and family are not, if your friend faints, throws up or are affected by the sight of blood or when watching someone insert a needle into your body, we are not insured/covered for them. This makes us liable for anything that may happen to them whilst witnessing.

Circumstances where we would allow a support person in:

  • If a translator is needed, i.e. if English is not your native tongue and you may need some help with communicating.
  • If a carer is needed for a client with disability/special needs or is elderly.

Remember to always inform your piercer prior that you may have special needs for your piercing.
